PML - Blackford Jerry

Jerry Blackford leads the PML Oceans 2025 Sustainable Marine Resources theme which uses data re-analysis, modelling and economic interpretation to assess the functional basis of observed changes to the marine ecosystem and quantify the impact of predicted perturbations. He is a PI in the UK Carbon Capture and Storage Consortium (NERC/EPSRC/ESRC funded) responsible for modelling CCS leakage impacts and leads the PML contribution to this project. He has been a principle investigator in >12 national and EC scientific projects, currently as a PI in both EPOCA (Ocean Acidification) and MEECE (Ecosystems in a changing environment) EU Framework 7 programs. He has 18 years specialist experience of interpreting and quantifying marine system function and its relationship with the physical environment by developing mathematical models and promoting coupled complex models as a methodology for heuristic and predictive studies. Current interests are based around quantifying the potential impacts on marine ecosystems of predicted acidification and climate driven variability and assessing environmental impacts of CO2 mitigation strategies. He has published 25 peer reviewed papers. In RISCS he will be responsible for leading work package 3 and specifically the marine ecosystem impact modelling.
